kitling

kitling
This word was used in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries of a small cat, and occasionally crept into vocative use. Mirabel, in Beaumont and Fletcher’s The WildGoose Chase, says to Rosalura and Lillia, ‘Out, kitlings! What caterwauling’s here!’ Caterwauling refers to the noise made by cats at rutting time.
